Fees for hiring a lawyer in a residential conveyance can vary greatly because clients aren't aware of all the "behind-the-scenes" legal procedures. Because of heavy competition, some lawyers may provide only the minimum services needed. You should review the scope of what your lawyer is willing to do for the fees quoted, and how much extras would cost. You may want to pay him to investigate some issues further, such as zoning bylaws or builder's lien protection. As a general rule, lawyers cannot spend a lot of time on a conveyance file cost effectively. Thus, most real estate lawyers rely heavily on legal assistants. Contact a lawyer's office regarding their normal range for a simple conveyance and mortgage. This assumes that the file is fairly straightforward, and that the lawyer is not reviewing any easements and restrictive covenants, or zoning. Disbursements, such as registration fees, agents' fees, photocopies and couriers, are usually in addition to time spent by the lawyer and their staff. Check what diusbursements might typically range in cost. |
